My favourite dog breed?... hmm, I don't have a favourite breed, however, the one dog that left the biggest impression in my heart, has to be my JACK RUSSELL TERRIER... Toby.
The Jack Russell Terrier is a British breed of small terrier. It's body is predominantly white with patches of black or tan and can be smooth, rough or broken coated (Wikipedia)
They do not require much in the way of grooming, however, they do moult quite a lot therefore I would advise brushing daily with a rubber curry brush ( Zoom Groom) and a deshedding mud treatment every 8 to10 weeks.
Jack Russell's were bred and used for fox hunting in the early 19th century therefore they are very energetic and require a high level of exercise and mental stimulation. They are suited to a number of dog sports such as flyball or agility.
According to Wikipedia characteristics, they can be stubborn at times and aggressive to other
animals and humans.
The Jack Russell breed can live until 12-13 however, personally I have known many living to around 16 years.
The Jack Russell terrier is a very popular breed as they are very energetic, intelligent (easy to train and learn tricks)
loyal, devoted to their owners, very friendly and sociable, especially with
children .
All of these characteristics make it the perfect companion for walkers and children.
As the Jack Russell Terrier was bred for hunting ,it is not suited to homes with small animals such as rabbit's.
Early socialisation with other dog's is important due to the inbred aggression but with good training the Jack Russell Terrier can have a charming nature.
Now, the part that I was dying to get to, my beloved Toby.
unfortunately
he passed over the Rainbow Bridge on 23rd June 2023 at the age of 13 years and 3 months. (heart failure)
I miss him every single day.
Out of all the dog's that I've had the privilege to share lives with, Toby will be the one who has made the biggest impact to my life.
He had the most amazing character, he was soft, gentle, very, very affectionate, he knew when I wasn't feeling my usual self and would come and snuggle up to me and give me lot's of sloppy kisses.
He was funny and adorable and very clever, for instance, he had a penchant for soft toys,
at one time he had around 12 which I gave each a name, there was a panda, named panda, of course, a bear named bear, one named teddy, another named baby and so forth,
I would place them all in a row and ask him to fetch each one in turn by name...he did!
